Glitters of thy eyes

We’ve always joked about how those who’ve worked full time are easily identifiable when we are comparing the before with the after photos, or against those still in school, for we notice the perishment of the glittering spark of thy eyes, that is replaced by the composed, slightly exhausted dull sight. It is the sight of acceptance.

Every morning when I commute to work, I am surrounded by strained eyes and bodies of flesh that get dragged around, while leaving behind trails of depleting energy. It came to my realization that naiveness is what shields us from the cruelty of actualities, where we will be recruited into the marching band to choir the symphony of the world, at the expense of the glitters of thy eyes.

There being said, do we dare to take a detour? To leave the crowd as their cold stares latch onto the back of our head? We are too accustomed to being pointed in a direction and having our peers move in the same herd as us, towards the road constructed by our seniors, a path that they laid brick by brick, then smoothened by countless steps.

Soon we reached the edge of the precipice to decide the course onwards, the group hurried into the long path ahead, while you waited. What then shall you choose? I am not advertising the common notion of “quit your job and start a biz”, but rather an inward conversation with oneself, to discover and re-discover your spark that makes you feel alive. It can be as simple as starting a new hobby, just like how I re-discovered my passion for writing (Once a yapper, always a yapper).

Please protect the glitters of your eyes at all cost, for you are the only one who can reignite the radiating gleam of oneself. Be adventurous, be weird, be funny, be courageous, be who you promised yourself to be, at the age of twelve.

I promised myself not to become a boring person.
